50 Prosperity Classics

Self Help

Bonus! This month’s book is actually 50 books in 1.  Author Tom Butler-Bowdon has done all the hard work for the reader. He has summarized and compiled fifty of the greatest books about prosperity into one easy to read gem of a book: 50 Prosperity Classics. Really, this book is so great, I would call it a classic in and of itself. The awesome thing about this book is that it quickly gets down to the nitty-gritty of each individual book in just a few short pages. If the summary resonates with you then you can go get the unabridged version.

As you get into the book you will find that there are some common themes that each of the greatest prosperity writers of all time hit upon.  When all the experts are saying the same thing, there’s got to be something to it, right? So, if you want to be prosperous listen up! Here I’m going to give you the short version of the already short version found in the book.

The Invisible Hand

Not all of the authors are/were Christian or even particularly religious but a surprising number of them are/were believers in some sort of higher power.  There are laws set up that if you follow you will be punished or rewarded accordingly. Crack the code and follow these rules and you will overcome all odds and become prosperous. Many call this invisible hand God. Others refer to it simply as “the Universe.”

The Law of Attraction and the Power of Positive Thinking

The Law of Attraction states that your life and circumstances are a reflection of your thoughts. If a good day = waking up late, spilling coffee on your new shirt, running a red light and getting a ticket, then your boss yelling at you at work, then maybe you should pay careful attention to your thought patterns. Do you beat up on yourself? Jealous of others? Have an otherwise gloomy outlook on life? The Law of Attraction says that the reason your life isn’t going the way you want it to is because you are inviting poor outcomes with negative thoughts.

To create prosperity you must learn to cultivate positive thoughts. Try writing positive affirmations on your bathroom mirror and reading them aloud every morning. Take the time to visualize what you want. Make a vision board. Ask the Universe to give you what you want. When you are active in seeking to change the environment in your mind and taking your thoughts to a more positive place,  you will attract the things that you want. You will be engaged in making your dreams come true and you will be more likely to recognize opportunities as they come.

The Law of Attraction often gets a bad rap for its seemingly mystical nature and some controversial statements that have been made. Don’t let that scare you off. Give it a try and see what happens in your own life!

Stewardship

As you begin to put the Law of Attraction into action, look around yourself and see if you are taking good care of the things that you already have. Is your budget balanced? Your house clean? Are you taking care of your body? Are you doing your best at work?

If you are not doing these things then why should the Universe see fit to give you more money, a bigger house, vitality of body, or a better job? Taking care of what you have is putting your positive thoughts into action. When you take care of what is yours then the Universe will take notice and will give you more. Take care of that and it will give you even more so on top of what it has already given.

Take a risk

Although there were some cases of people who became rich after a lifetime of careful budgeting, a large number of authors had to take a risk to get their riches. Some started businesses, some got into real estate, some into investing but they all risked something.

Not all of us have the same tolerance for risk but we can all take some risks. Maybe you don’t want to  quit your job to start a business but maybe you can start one in your spare time. Perhaps you don’t want to dump all your savings into a risky investment but maybe you could put some extra money into an index fund.

Diversify

As you are learning to make investments or starting a business, look for ways to mitigate your risk. I know! I just said take a risk and now I’m telling you that the experts also say to avoid risk! Truth is they say both. Take calculated risks that have the potential to pay off but don’t be rash. This is part of that stewardship thing that was mentioned above. Research where you are putting your money. Put your eggs in more than one basket. Find ways different ways to increase the money you have.  Find different venues to bring in money in case one earning machine stops paying out.

Gratitude

Although it is important to try to attract good things to your future, it is equally important to be grateful for the things that you have now. Show gratitude to the Universe and to the people in your lives. When you are grateful, not only are you happier but you are also telling the Universe that you are ready to receive more.

Charity

Its official. 100% of great prosperity authors agree that in order to get you must also be willing to give. To be truly prosperous you cannot be too attached to your riches. By giving away some of your profits you are showing the Universe that you are grateful for what you have and that you are willing to help others. The Universe is generous to those who give and will reward you tenfold.  Give what you are able to. A popular number thrown out by the authors was 10% to a favorite cause. Consider it a tithe to the Universe.

Whew! Now that I’m done cherry picking the very best advice there is to offer on prosperity it all seems rather simple. But don’t take my word, read the book!

Until next time!
