Mascara Faceoff

Beauty Makeup

Today I’m coming at you with my recent mascara haul! New to my collection is the Sephora Full Action Mascara, Lights Camera Flashes by Tarte, and Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes. I’m going to be comparing the three using my old Physicians Formula Organics mascara as well as bare lashes as a control.

Bare Lashes

I think the best starting place is to see what my bare lashes look like. Hope you all don’t get too freaked out by all these eyeball closeups….

Physician’s Formula Organic Wear Bigger Better Lashes

Next up is Physician’s Formula Organic Wear Bigger Better Lashes in Ultra Black. This is what I have been using and I wanted a side by side comparison with my new goodies. I love that this mascara uses natural ingredients and is 70% organic. Because sometimes I worry about putting chemicals right next to my eye. The wand on this one took a little bit of getting used to as it only has a few rows of spikes. Also, the formula is a little wetter than most mascaras so that took some getting used to as well. That said, I have enjoyed this mascara. It does a decent job thickening, and a good job lengthening and separating.

Sephora Full Action Mascara

This mascara came with the Sephora Smoke Machine Eye Brush kit but I had misplaced it when I was doing my review of the brushes. It has been found and I am happy to review it today. The Full Action Mascara comes with the typical rounded brush with bristles spiraling around the wand. After having been used to the Physician’s Formula wand this one felt a bit clumsy in my hands — not because there was anything wrong with it, I have just been accustomed to a different wand type. But this is like riding a bike and after a minute I got back in the hang of things. When comparing it to the Physician’s Formula it is not quite as good as thickening but when it comes to lengthening and separating this mascara really pulled ahead.

Lights, Camera, Flashes!

Next up I got this adorable mascara + lash curler set from Tart. The formula is called Lights, Camera, Flashes. First impressions are that the packaging is exquisite and boy, isn’t the lash curler glamorous? Digging into this set I was not disappointed.  The curler had a lot more spring to it than the one I have been using from WalMart. It just feels nice. As to the actual mascara, I don’t think it gave quite the length as the Sephora but this one paid off in the thickening department.

Younique MoodStruck 3D Fiber Lashes

Last up is the Younique 3D Fiber Lashes. I see these everywhere online and since I am a complete dunce at applying false lashes I thought I would give these a try. So they don’t call it a mascara per se…. you actually put it over mascara but I think its in the same category. The kit comes with a transplanting gel and with 3D fibers. You put the transplanting gel over your mascara then apply the 3D fibers. The transplant gel just looks like regular mascara. The 3D fibers are fluffly little guys…they kind of look like tiny little iron shavings.

These definitely added a lot oomph! I don’t think it was as dramatic of results as I’ve seen on other people, plus I think they have the potential to look spidery. Maybe I need some practice. That being said, they did a lot to add volume to my lashes and I do think it is fun and that I will use this for when I want to add a little va-va-voom to my look.

One major downside for me is the MLM structuring of this product. You cannot just go onto the website and buy it. You have to track down one of their sellers to get it. Come on. I am trying to buy this product from you. Shut up and take my money! I am not interested in hosting mascara parties where you use high pressure sales techniques to try to get all my contacts phone numbers…..Ok. Rant over. I was able to find this lady’s website and ordered through her. I have not had any unpleasant pressuring to buy any more products or anything. Whew! A big thank you!

This is just the Transplanting gel over Lights Camera Flashes.

A close up of the 3D fibers.

Here we have the completed look. This stuff definitely added some volume to my lashes!

Younique on the left, Physicians Formula on the right.

Final thoughts….

I love the Physicians Formula and that it strives to be more natural. Sometimes I just want to look amazing though! I think that the Sephora has the edge on length. I am really a thickness kind of girl though and so for me the Lights Camera Flashes takes the cake. For special occasions when I really want to impress is when I think I would go for the Younique.

I liked the lights camera flashes on you the best! I have never tried ANY of these mascaras, I need to get out there and be a bit more adventurous in my mascara department LOL. I love the Lancome Hypnose Drama, it’s my favorite so far! Great review! XO -Kim

I liked that one best too :) I haven’t heard of the Lancome Hypnose Drama but once I’ve expired this batch of mascaras I’ll have to look into it!
