Sephora Smoke Machine Eye Brush Review

Beauty Makeup

Today I’m coming at you with a review of the Sephora Smoke Machine Smokey Eye Brush Kit. The kit comes with 5 brushes: the shadow brush, base shadow brush, smudge brush, precision smudge brush, and angled liner brush.

Along with the brush set I used the Hard Candy Quad in Brownie Points, the Maybelline New York Gel Liner in Eggplant, and Physician’s Formula Organic Wear Mascara in Ultra Black.

To start out I used the pink color in the eyeshadow quad and applied it all over my lid with the base shadow brush. The brush applied the shadow smoothly yet I found it to be a bit large and clumsy for such a small surface area.

Next I used the regular shadow brush to apply the white color in the quad as my highlighter. I used it under the brow and around my tear ducts. I liked this brush. It was a good size and again applied the shadow smoothly. In the future I think that I will use this brush for my base shadow as well as beneath the brow.

After applying my base and highlighter shades I used the smudge brush to apply the darker purple shade to the crease of my eye. I then made a diagonal line down to the outside corner of my eye to get a bit more of a cat eye look. I really like this bush. It is the perfect long, blunt shape to get the pigment into the crease.

Next up was the precision smudge brush which I used to blend the crease shadow to the base shadow and to clean up the lines I was creating.  I also like this brush and can see myself using it frequently. In addition to smudging and cleaning up lines I will also be using this brush to apply my highlighter to my tearducts as I think it is quite a lot smaller and more suitable for the purpose than the shadow brush.

Last up was the angled liner brush. I found this brush to be a bit soft for liner. I typically like a stiff brush for this as it makes it easier to get a clean, heavily pigmented line. That being said, with this brush I had to apply a few times before the pigmentation was adequate. I am hoping that after some use it will stiffen up.

After finishing up with the brushes I completed the look with a quick application of mascara. (And also found some better lighting…lol)

Overall thoughts are I liked this set but am not in love with it. I did enjoy the shadow brush and both smudge brushes and think they do their job very well. I am not so in love with the base shadow brush. I am still holding out hopes for the liner brush. That being said I would give this set 3.5 stars.

Love the look you created! These brushes look really nice and I can never have too many eye brushes (so I can take even longer to wash them!) Also, you totally made me want to get a purple liner! Loved this! XO -Kim
