Simple DIY Hand Chain
As the weather begins to warm up I am getting so excited for summer. Sunshine, dips in the pool, hiking, trips to the zoo, and concerts are all things that come to mind. I knew that I had to do a diy project with summer concerts in mind. Along with a summer festival type theme I needed the project to be simple, cheap, and ideally made with items I already have. In come the hand chain! Hand chains have a boho, gypsy feel that is in perfect harmony with the summer spirit. The best part is that it is super easy — all you really need is a necklace chain. When your all done take it off and its ready to be used as a necklace again. No fuss!
- Necklace Chain 18″- 20″ (Mine was 19″)
- Beads with large opening
- Tape, twist tie
Wrap the unclasped chain around your wrist. You want the ends to be on the topside of your hand. Cross the ends loosely over top of each other.
You are going to start twisting the chain. You want to get this as tight as you can so that your hand chain doesn’t end up loose.
Optional: It would be really cool to add a bead between each twist for some added flair. I didn’t have any beads with big enough holes so I did without.
Continue twisting until you reach your middle finger.
Once you reach your middle finger drape one end of the chain between the middle and index finger and the other between the middle and ring finger. Flip your hand over and clasp the chain.
Then take the clasped chain and clasp it again to the chain going around your wrist.
At this point check to see how tight it is. If it feels like it is loose then you can pinch the extra chain and tape it. I think a metallic duck tape would look kind of cool. This might leave the chain feeling sticky when you are done so a twist tie is another good option.
Once you’ve got it feeling secure you are technically done! Because it is so simple I tried on a couple of rings to jazz it up.
There you have it. A super easy piece of summer jewelry!
Until next time!
